Retirement At Last
Yes, retirement finally came into view for Donald in December of 2000. He looked forward to another life full of family time and chances to be involved with new things. But, as you may have gathered, settling down for Donald did not mean relaxing-the active man was ready for new happenings in his free time!
In 2003, Donald and his wife Morag moved from there home in Easton, Massachusetts, to a small house in Avalon Village, located in Hampden. Since then, he has become extremely involved in the community. For example, Donald organized a "Singles" dinner, where once a month, anyone "single" is invited for a nice dinner.
And it doesn't stop there! In the same month that Donald retired from his OB/GYN practice, he purchased a condo at Sugarloaf Mountain for he and his family to enjoy. The condo is still owned by him, and is approximately two hours from Avalon Village. Whenever my family packs our bags, we remember just how lucky we are to have such a generous father/grandfather, one who taught us all to ski and knows the slopes like the back of his hand. Donald is currently 85 and still going strong!
But one of Donald's greatest "addictions" would be Bridge. "It's a great way to keep myself busy," he says. And keep busy he does. Donald is constantly traveling across the state(\(\(\(\(\(\(and occassionally farther) with his American Contact Bridge League(ACBL) for group bridge games. There is a fee for competing in the matches, but anyone around Donald can see that there is nothing he loves more(even if he does lose a little money). Plus, with usually around 100 members, there is always a steady supply of bridge players and new people. In this way, he has met numerous people who play in his league of whom he keeps in touch with regularly.
All in all, retirement has served Donald well!
