Patients and Babies

A Life-Changing Job

Though Donald (Dr. Murray) delivered close to 9,000 newborn babies, the thought of helping in the birth of a new life never got old. During his 45 years as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OB/GYN), a doctor who specializes in the female reproductive system, he was known to many patients as the "miracle doctor". They claimed whether it was the number of years of practice he had under his belt or his character in general, they still requested him..

Even the story of how Donald chose the medical/surgeon field is one to remember. While recovering from a serious arm wound, the doctor caring for him prompted "Mr. Murray, do you have anything in mind for a job?". And after Donald responded with a "not yet", the doctor suggested he should go into the medical field. And a few months after receiving his medical school practice diploma, he began an OB/GYN job.

However, being a baby doctor meant being involved with some awful and some joyful moments of others' lives. "The awful side of my job would by far by delivering an abnormal baby to the then-excited parents," Donald claims. "But the happiest of them all was delivering a healthy, strong baby." He was lucky enough to be involved with the life of a newborn that he could be proud to say "I brought him/her into the world".

But, as much as Donald loved his profession, it also took a large toll on his famiy life. He and his wife, Morag, had four children, making it difficult for Donald to balance his work life and family time. Countless times, work would interrupt bondings at home. But when it came calling, he wasn't about to miss a birth.
